Introducing the Book Nook

We are thrilled to share the story behind our newest literacy adventure: the Book Nook. Thanks to the Scholastic Rewards earned through our book fairs and monthly flyer orders, we were able to fully fund this $14,999.99 book-dispensing vending machine without using any general fundraising dollars. These same Scholastic points also help us keep the machine stocked and support essential book access for all students.

After placing the order and coordinating delivery, the Book Nook arrived ready to inspire. Students will soon earn special gold tokens through a schoolwide rewards system designed by administration, celebrating positive behavior, academic growth, attendance, and other achievements. Each token unlocks a book of their choice, allowing children to build personal libraries they can be proud of.

What drew us to the Book Nook was its joyful, student-centered approach to literacy. It puts high-quality books directly into kids’ hands in a way that feels exciting and empowering. We hope it will strengthen school culture, boost engagement, and encourage students to cheer one another on.

We are most excited to watch the smiles, the book discoveries, and the pride that comes from choosing a new story to take home. Here’s to opening doors, turning pages, and celebrating every young reader at Oak Ridge.
